Water Safety

To comply with Australian Dragon Boat Federation (AusDBF) requirements, any individual participating in the sport must have the capability to swim up to 50 metres and be able to tread water unassisted while fully clothed.  Anyone who cannot do this is required to wear a life jacket while taking part in any dragon boat activity be it training, racing or otherwise.  Therefore, within each year, unless you choose to wear a life jacket for all sessions, you will need to demonstrate to an appropriately qualified person, that you can:
  • Float, scull or tread water for three (3) minutes with feet off the bottom of the pool, while wearing the clothes you normally wear when paddling.
  • Swim 50 metres using any stroke.
To further ensure your safety, you also need to
  • complete a Medical Form that can be used to assist Medical personnel in an emergency.  Until then, your form is held confidentially in a sealed envelope. Click here for WSD Medical Form

Coomba Aquatic Club

The introduction of Dragon Boating at Coomba was initiated by Coomba Aquatic Club (CAC).  Wallis Spirit Dragons is a separate entity and membership of the CAC is not compulsory.  However, we do encourage WSD members to join the CAC.  This mutually supportive relationship enhances a great community spirit with both clubs offering support and encouragement to all members.  Click here for CAC website for details on Membership.
